2023 Padma Awards announced by Ministry of Home Affairs-India

The Union ministry of home affairs announced the Padma Awards on the eve of the country’s 74th Republic Day on Wednesday. Mulayam Singh Yadav, Zakir Hussain, KM Birla and Sudha Murty are among 106 Padma Award recipients this year.

Padma Vibhushan: Six Awardees
The Padma Vibhushan awardees included late SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav, musician Zakir Hussain, late ORS pioneer Dilip Mahalanabis and S M Krishna.

  1. Mulayam Singh Yadav (Posthumous)
  2. Balkrishna Doshi (Posthumous)
  3. Zakir Hussain
  4. SM Krishna
  5. Dilip Mahalanabis (Posthumous)
  6. Srinivas Varadhan

Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian Awards of India, are conferred in three categories, namely,

1) Padma Vibhushan

2) Padma Bhushan

3) Padma Shri.

The Awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities like art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.

‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service.

‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order.

‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field.

The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.
