An Indian student in the US state of Ohio has died and police are investigating the case, according to India’s Consulate in New York.

Uma Satya Sai Gadde, an Indian student, has died in Ohio’s Cleveland, said the Indian Consulate in New York on Friday. It added that a police investigation into the death is underway, and it remains in touch with Gadde’s family in India.

This is the latest in a string of incidents that have affected the Indian-origin community in the US. Since the beginning of 2024, there have been at least half a dozen deaths of Indian and Indian-origin students in the US.

The Consulate General of India in New York said in a post on X that it is providing assistance to help transport Uma Gadde’s mortal remains to India at the earliest.

It did not add the cause of Gadde’s death.
