95th Oscar Academy: INDIA bags 2 awards with RRR and The Elephant Whispers

The 95th annual Academy Awards are live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles with host Jimmy Kimmel. Going into the awards show, Everything Everywhere All at Once leads with the most nominations, 11 total, including for Best Picture. The other nine films in that top category are: All Quiet on the Western FrontAvatar: The Way of WaterThe Banshees of InisherinElvisThe FabelmansTár, Top Gun: MaverickTriangle of Sadness and Women Talking.

With three nominations in Best Song (Naatu Naatu from RRR), Best Documentary Feature (All That Breathes), and Best Documentary Short (The Elephant Whisperers), India was waiting with bated breath to know the winner and is finally not disappointed. Notably, this is the first time India-made productions have earned so many Oscar nominations.

“Naatu Naatu” from RRR — WINNER (INDIA)

; Music by M.M. Keeravaani; Lyric by Chandrabose was nominated for Best Music (Original song) and very positive on winning the title and didn’t appoint viewers.

RRR’ singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava perform ‘Naatu Naatu’ on stage with Deepika Padukone took to the Oscars stage and introduced the Naatu Naatu team and ‘Naatu Naatu’ performance gets a standing ovation from the viewers.

Best documentary short film

“The Elephant Whisperers” — WINNER (INDIA)

The Kartiki Gonsalves-directorial ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ bagged an award in the Best Documentary Short category. The Netflix documentary was competing against ‘Haulout’, ‘How Do You Measure a Year?’, ‘The Martha Mitchell Effect’ and ‘Stranger at the Gate’.

About ‘The Elephant Whispers’:

Running at 41 minutes, this short documentary movie explores the tentative yet precious bond between Raghu, an orphaned baby elephant, and his caretakers – a mahout couple named Bomman and Bellie – who devote their lives to protect him from poachers and raise him.
