Three kinds of Indian spices not intended to be sold in the United States have been recalled from 11 states, including New York, Florida and Texas, after salmonella was found.

In the company-written, FDA-posted recall notice for two of the spices Everest Food Products from Gujarat, India, ran the bus over New Jersey’s Amin Trading Agency.

“These products were not distributed by Everest Food Products Private Limited and they were not intended for distribution or sale in the U.S. market,” the recall notice said. “Amin Trading Agency LLC., Edison, NJ, sourced our products from Indian markets and distributed them in the U.S. market.”

Amin also distributed the third spice recalled, made by Maggi, which is owned by Nestle Global. The FDA said none of the three were labeled for U.S. distribution.

What is salmonella?

Salmonella strikes 1.35 million Americans each year, according to the CDC. Of that group, it hospitalizes about 26,500 and kills 420. Most at risk for the worst effects are senior citizens, children under 5 and those with damaged immune systems. Most people get fever, vomiting, stomachaches and diarrhea that starts around 12 to 72 hours after eating the tainted food and run for four to seven days.

What should you do now?

Either throw out the spices or return them to the store for a refund. If you have questions, call Amin Trading at 848-271-1013.
